Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones has fled social media following criticism of his effort on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ game-winning touchdown Monday night.
Jones was widely criticized for essentially standing and watching as QB Trevor Lawrence fell down, got up, and ran into the end zone in the final minute of Jacksonville’s 31-28 win over the Chiefs at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Jones seemingly did not realize or care that the play was not dead, and simply stood on the 1-yard line as Lawrence made for the end zone (video here).
Naturally, Jones was widely criticized on social media for his lack of effort. Things got bad enough that at some point following Monday’s loss, he deactivated his social media accounts.

Part of the problem is Jones is one of the NFL’s highest-paid defensive tackles. He signed a contract extension with the team in 2024 worth $95 million in guaranteed money, and is regarded as one of the anchors of the team’s defense. For him to just stand there on such a crucial play is going to be seen as unacceptable by many.
Jones has not exactly been garnering attention for the right reasons so far this season. The three-time All-Pro selection has just one sack through five games so far this year.
