The Kansas City Chiefs may have to reconsider how they want to utilize Xavier Worthy next NFL season.
Worthy, the No. 28 overall pick from the 2024 draft, had 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns during his rookie season with the Chiefs. He took his play to another level in the playoffs, hauling in 19 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Despite how poorly the Chiefs played in the Super Bowl, he stepped up to the challenge and made some eye-popping plays.
Unfortunately, the latest story surrounding Worthy is very disturbing.
Moments ago, the NFL community learned that Worthy was arrested on Friday night in Williamson County, Texas. He's being charged with assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation.
The full details regarding this alleged situation are not out yet. All we know is Worthy's future with the Chiefs is up in the air right now.
The timing of this news is pretty brutal for Kansas City. Just a week ago, Andy Reid was telling reporters at the NFL Combine that Worthy will have an even bigger role in his offense next season.
"We learned Xavier is more than a deep threat. He also has the ability to do that and we probably could have tapped into that even more," Reid said. "I'm not sure we've tapped that out. I think there's more, and that's exciting."
Fast forward to this weekend, and Worthy's status for Week 1 might be in doubt.
The Chiefs have not yet commented on Worthy's arrest.
