The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best tight ends in the NFL in six-time Pro Bowler Travis Kelce and could also put a key reserve back on the depth chart for their Super Bowl LV showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday evening.
On Monday, the Chiefs designated tight end Deon Yelder to return from the injured reserve list. As Charles Goldman noted for Chiefs Wire, Yelder went down to a groin injury in the Week 17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and missed the playoff victories over the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Yelder participated in Monday's practice, which theoretically puts the 25-year-old on track to play against Tampa Bay. He'll be eligible for Super Bowl Sunday if the Chiefs elevate him to the active roster by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
Yelder recorded seven receptions for 36 yards during the regular season, and he's never scored a touchdown. As Goldman wrote, however, the third-year pro has developed into a solid run-blocker at the position.
Yelder likely would take the place of a different injured Chiefs player if he's on the roster by Saturday night.
