Chiefs Trade Fixes Biggest Patrick Mahomes Problem Via Draft

All offseason we had heard the Kansas City Chiefs' biggest area of concern was the offensive line, and that was despite the free agency signing of Jaylon Moore to be the starter at left tackle.

But even after that, questions remained about the position, and it appears the Chiefs are desperate for those questions to be answered, as Ohio State's Josh Simmons was picked by Kansas City at No. 32 in the NFL Draft.

While he is coming off a knee injury, the Chiefs, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, are comfortable with his rehab and feel good about the selection.

With Moore signing a two-year deal, the thought is that he will be the starter, but now Simmons comes in to provide some serious competition at training camp.

Seen as a solid prospect, there are questions over his health, but after doing their due diligence, the Chiefs feel they have a player they can count on to be a good depth piece and, in an ideal world, take over from Moore.

With Patrick Mahomes sacked a total of 47 times, including the postseason, it is clear that keeping No. 15 upright is the urgent priority, and getting Simmons, the Chiefs have a tackle for the now and the future.

So, a trade with the Eagles puts KC in position.

Two birds. One stone. And hopefully, the fix.

Exactly where the Chiefs go in the later rounds remains to be seen, but the offensive line was always where most felt the franchise had to go in round one, as protecting Mahomes is how the organization will live and die.

And in the 6-5, 310-pound Simmons, Mahomes gets another protector, one he hopes will be around for a long time.
