Chiefs Travis Kelce Apologizes For Brazil Criticism

About a week ago, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce was not looking forward to his team's season-opening game after the announcement that it was going to be played in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

"I'll be there, not to do a podcast. I'll be playing football in the (expletive) heat," Kelce said in an earlier episode of his New Heights podcast.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Los Angeles Chargers in their Week 1 matchup south of the equator on Sept. 5. The Brazil temperatures are expected to be in the 80s, but the humidity, Kelce claims, will make for a "miserable" environment.

Playing in Kansas City his entire career, he has clearly grown to favor colder playing climates than hot ones.

"I will say this, if it’s humid, I’m gonna be miserable," Kelce said. "… If it’s hot and humid, and it’s kind a what I’m expecting, I’m going to be miserable but we’re going to find a way to get a win."

"... I've been in Jacksonville in September, and that's (expletive) miserable."

Now it sounds Kelce has cooled down a bit since those fiery remarks.

In the latest episode of his pod co-hosted by his brother and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, Travis expressed an apology and emphasized his excitement for the international affair.

"I apologize if it came off as that I'm not excited about this," he said. "I'm still excited, I'm just going to be doing some wardrobe changes throughout the game."

"Can't wait to get down there and see all the Brazil fans and how they get rocking for some American football," Kelce added. "Sign me up! Don't get me wrong, I love playing in Arrowhead and I love playing in America, but I'm down for at least one or two international games."

Kelce isn't lacking in chest hair, so he was honest in his initial worries about the heat.

"I'm a furry son of a [expletive] – me and heat just don't do well together."

With his frustrations about the weather settled, there may be another factor out of his control that he could have concern about.

Earlier, Jason warned that the field conditions should be more of a concern in Brazil than the temperature. Jason recounted his former team's experience in a game at that same venue last season against the Green Bay Packers. The former All-Pro center, however, was watching from home in his first year of retirement.

"The field was atrocious last year," Jason said. "It was noticeably bad; they were slipping all over the place. It was a bad field."

One silver lining? The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl after beginning their season in Brazil. Kansas City hopes it can enjoy the same fate.

First thing: Travis needs to remember to hydrate.
