Chiefs' Travis Kelce drops massive hint about playing future

Considering the circumstances, most people assumed that this would be Travis Kelce's farewell season.

After months of speculation and a heartbreaking end to the 2025 season, the Kansas City Chiefs gave their 36-year-old tight end a three-year deal worth $57.7 million, though it was always believed to be a one-year contract with a couple of dummy years.

Kelce reportedly mulled retirement before deciding to run it back for at least another year.

But in an interview with ESPN's Chris Berman, the future Hall of Famer claimed he wants to play until the wheels fall off.

“I still have the desire to go out there and compete, and I still think I can compete at a high level,” Kelce said.

Kelce's numbers haven't been as impressive in the past couple of years, though he's still coming off hauling in 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Moreover, it looks like he's not as ready to ride into the sunset as most people thought he was:

“I love this game so much that I’m not ready to go into that next phase yet,” Kelce admitted. 

Kelce's popularity soared once he started dating his now-wife, Taylor Swift. He's a successful entrepreneur and will probably make more money off the field than on the field in no time.

Also, some fans accused him of not being as locked in because he was worried and busy with other things in his life.

Clearly, that's not the case. He still has that competitive fire, and he can't picture himself doing anything full-time other than playing football.

Not every superstar gets an opportunity to walk away on his own terms. And even if he can't still play at a superlative level — which is a big if — after his age-36 season, the Chiefs will welcome him with open arms and will always have a spot on their roster for him.
