Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Proves He’s A Huge Fan Of Kadarius Toney

It is no secret that the New York Giants could use some help at the wide receiver position. Their big free agent signing of Kenny Golladay during the 2021 offseason has not panned out as he has struggled with injuries and inconsistency on the field. It is certainly not encouraging that left tackle Andrew Thomas has more touchdown receptions than him since he joined the team. Another player that Thomas had more touchdown receptions than during his Giants’ tenure was Kadarius Toney. Toney is no longer on the team as New York traded him to the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the trade deadline.

It was a bit of a surprising move given how dire the situation is at wide receiver for Big Blue. But, when the opportunity presented itself to turn Toney into a third and fifth-round pick, general manager Joe Schoen jumped at it.

The Chiefs are certainly happy to have Toney, a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, on their team. He is yet another explosive, versatile weapon for Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy to use in their high-octane offense led by Patrick Mahomes.

While making an appearance on The New Heights Podcast, tight end Travis Kelce was discussing the Toney trade. He, for one, was shocked that the Chiefs landed him and he isn’t sure why New York would want to move on from him.

While it was certainly head-scratching, especially given how badly they need a wide receiver, the Giants have a new regime in place that inherited Toney. The two sides never saw eye-to-eye as Toney dealt with numerous injuries during his Giants tenure.

There is no denying the talent that Toney has, but there were also some character issues that arose during his time with the team. Toney also hinted on his social media that the hamstring injury that kept him out of games since Week 2 may have been embellished and he was using it as a means to get moved.

Whatever the case may be, Kadarius Toney is now a part of the Chiefs and has looked good in limited action. He has caught six passes for 69 yards and one touchdown while playing 37 snaps. His role is sure to increase in the coming weeks and he could find himself in the starting lineup with Mecole Hardman dealing with an injury and JuJu Smith-Schuster suffering a concussion last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
