Here is how the Chiefs trimmed their roster to the 53-man limit:

Released:

  • LB Cole Christiansen
  • CB Kader Kohou
  • DE Emmanuel Ogbah

Waived:

Waived/injured:

  • G C.J. Hanson
  • QB Chris Oladokun
  • RB EJ Smith

Placed on IR:

  • WR Jimmy Holiday

Placed on reserve/PUP list:

    • DT Omarr Norman-Lott

Kansas City turned to Oladokun to close the season at quarterback. Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew suffered season-ending injuries, leaving the former UDFA as the last man standing. It is possible Oladokun could end up back with the Chiefs via an injury settlement, but the team added Justin Fields and seventh-round rookie Garrett Nussmeier. That lessens the need for a fourth QB on the practice squad. Still, Oladokun has been with the Chiefs since a February 2023 futures deal.

Norman-Lott will miss at least the Chiefs’ first four games. The 2025 second-round pick is recovering from an ACL tear he sustained in Week 7 of last season. This serves the latest reminder of ACL tears being different, as Mahomes is readying for Week 1 after suffering ACL and LCL tears in Week 15 of last season.
