Chiefs WR recruiting former Packers teammate to join him in Kansas City

It’s no secret that the Green Bay Packers would like to keep Allen Lazard from hitting the open market.

The 27-year-old free-agent-to-be is likely to have his pick of teams should he get that far, and his former teammate Marquez Valdes-Scantling has not been shy about wanting Lazard to join him in Kansas City, to which Lazard had an interesting reply.

Valdes-Scantling and Lazard played together in Green Bay from 2018 to 2021.

Over that period, Valdes-Scantling started 39 games and recorded 123 receptions for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns. Lazard started just 25 games and totaled 109 receptions, 1,448 yards and 14 touchdowns over the same period, but really thrived as Green Bay’s No. 1 wideout in 2022 with Valdes-Scantling and Davante Adams both gone.

Lazard, who’s coming off a career year with 100 targets, 60 receptions and 788 yards, is considered one of the top receivers in this year’s free agent class along with Jakobi Meyers, Robert Woods, Sterling Shepard and JuJu Smith-Schuster, who had a 78-catch, 933-yard season with Kansas City.

Should Smith-Schuster walk in free agency, Lazard could take his place atop the Chiefs’ depth chart and form a solid 1-2 punch for Patrick Mahomes.
