Chris Bell Could Make Dolphins Debut Friday vs. Falcons
The Miami Dolphins could get their first look at one of their most intriguing rookies in game action Friday night.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley said wide receiver Chris Bell has a chance to get some reps in Miami’s preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons, a significant development as Bell continues his recovery from a knee injury.
Bell has been working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered during his final season at Louisville. After beginning training camp on the Non-Football Injury list, the Dolphins activated Bell last week and have gradually increased his workload.
Now, he’s getting closer to taking the next major step: playing in a game.
Bell’s recovery has progressed quickly over the past week.
When Bell initially returned to practice, he wore a red non-contact jersey and participated on a limited basis. At the time, Bell said getting cleared for contact was the next major hurdle in his recovery.
That hurdle appears to be behind him.
Bell has now shed the non-contact jersey and is participating more fully in practice, another encouraging sign that his knee is responding well to the increased workload.
Hafley’s latest comments provide even more optimism.
While there is no guarantee Bell will play Friday, the fact that the Dolphins are considering giving him game reps against Atlanta suggests he is getting closer to being fully ready.

If Bell does play against the Falcons, Dolphins fans shouldn’t necessarily expect him to be on the field for an extended period.
Even a handful of snaps could be valuable.
Bell hasn’t played in a game since suffering his ACL injury at Louisville in November 2025. Getting him back onto the field would allow him to experience live NFL game speed, take contact and begin developing chemistry with Miami’s quarterbacks in an actual game environment.
The bigger goal remains having Bell healthy for the regular season.
Hafley previously expressed optimism that Bell could be ready for the start of the season while emphasizing that Miami would not rush his recovery.
Friday could represent the perfect opportunity to test Bell without asking too much of him.
The Dolphins selected Bell in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft after an impressive career at Louisville, and his physical style gives Miami something different at wide receiver.
At 6-foot-2 and more than 220 pounds, Bell brings size and physicality to the position. During his August 18 media session, Bell specifically discussed using his size against smaller defensive backs.
That’s an element that could become valuable in Miami’s offense once Bell is completely healthy.
His recovery also comes at an important time. With the regular season approaching, every practice rep Bell receives gives him another opportunity to become comfortable with the offense and establish himself in the Dolphins’ receiver rotation.
Bell’s status will now be one of the biggest storylines for the Dolphins heading into Friday’s preseason finale.
Only a week ago, Bell was working his way back onto the practice field in a non-contact jersey. Now, there’s a legitimate possibility he could suit up against Atlanta.
Whether Bell gets five snaps, 15 snaps or ultimately doesn’t play at all, his progress over the past several days is encouraging.
The Dolphins aren’t going to jeopardize Bell’s long-term health for a preseason game. But if Hafley and Miami’s medical staff believe he’s ready, Friday night could provide Dolphins fans with their first look at Chris Bell in an NFL game.
And after a long road back from knee surgery, simply seeing Bell line up at wide receiver would represent another major milestone in his recovery.
