Chris Godwin: Bucs offense taking Bruce Arians' criticism 'in stride'

Tom Brady's offense faced criticism from coach Bruce Arians after the Buccaneers' Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints but receiver Chris Godwin said they aren't bothered by what Arians said.

"We understand that often, quarterbacks take the large majority of the blame for what happens with the team," Godwin told reporters. "But we've been around Tom enough to know that he's not bothered by that. We certainly aren't bothered by it. We understand the type of player that he is."

Brady was not up to his usual standards in his debut with Tampa Bay, as he threw two interceptions, including a costly pick-six. He posted a 34.5 QBR for his performance, which was among the lowest by quarterbacks in Week 1. Arians called Brady's performance "unusual," noting that the quarterback seemed prepared coming into the game but just didn't execute.

Arians also criticized the team's receivers, stating that they didn't win one-on-one battles. Godwin said that he and the other receivers were taking Arians' assessment "in stride" and was confident that the offense would bounce back after the disappointing debut.

While Arians did not mince words in calling out Brady, he also made it clear that he was not worried about the quarterback moving forward.

"He's had it before. He knows how to bounce back," Arians said. "He knew he didn't play very well. It's not what he expects from himself, nor do we expect. I would anticipate him to have a little more grit, a little more determination this week."
