Chris Godwin would be ‘very surprised’ if Tom Brady came out of retirement again

Don’t count on Tom Brady coming out of retirement again, according to Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin.

Brady initially retired after the 2021 season but opted to come back shortly thereafter. He felt he had more in the tank and while true, Brady was not as productive as his first two seasons in Tampa. Still, the Bucs made the playoffs for the third straight year.

However, that was the last we’ll see of Brady on a football field according to Godwin.

“I honestly, I think that’s pretty funny,” Godwin said on the Rich Eisen Show. “I’d be very surprised if he came out of retirement again, like, he put me down but I’d be very, very shocked.”

Brady finished his final season with a career high 733 passing attempts. He had 4,694 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions to go along with his 66.8% completion percentage.

Godwin had 104 catches (a career high) for 1,023 yards, three touchdowns and 9.8 yards per catch.

The Bucs turn to a combination of veteran Baker Mayfield, whom the team signed in the offseason, and former second round pick Kyle Trask (Florida). One of these guys is tasked with replacing Brady, no easy task.

Brady joined ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap on SportsCenter back in June and was asked how he thinks he’ll feel as the NFL season nears.

“Relieved,” Brady said with enthusiasm. “I won’t have Aaron Donald trying to chase me down and knock me out, I won’t have these guys that would’ve gotten paid a lot of money to hit me and knock me on the ground.”

Brady’s success and longevity in the NFL has resulted in him holding quite a few records on the top spot of the NFL’s all-time record books. He has the most quarterback wins, pass attempts, completions, passing touchdowns, and passing yards in league history, but he also holds another record that he won’t mind not contributing to this upcoming season.

“I do have a record for being sacked more than any other quarterback in NFL history, which maybe somebody will break that record some day,” Brady said. “But I’ve got a lot of bumps and bruises to show for 23 great seasons, but I certainly won’t miss that but that’s okay, I had an amazing experience.”

Brady has been sacked a whopping 565 times in his career, which comes with the territory of playing in 335 career games and not exactly being the most mobile quarterback during his career.

Safe to say, Brady is done taking hits for a living.
