Chris Grier is Doing His Job

Let’s assume you are teleported into the job of General Manager Chris Grier in 2025.

Your boss, owner Stephen Ross, tells you, “I am tired of spending my money.”

And owner Ross adds, “Be efficient with what we have to spend.”

“Be smart”.

“And get younger players.”

If I were Chris Grier, I would be a bit intimidated.

That is a tall order.

So, what do you do when your boss instructs you to be frugal and still attempt to build a competitive roster?

You do what Grier has done thus far in free agency.

Bring in players that do not break the bank and have the potential to be starters.

James Daniels, expected to man one of the offensive line guard positions, was the most expensive signing at 8 million annually.

Granted, Chris Grier has made some questionable personnel decisions as general manager, but he has done just enough to remain in the good graces of owner Stephen Ross.

Grier has the smarts to know that filling all the roster holes that currently exist through the draft is impossible.

Grier knows that he will need to explore other avenues to build a competitive roster and compete with the top teams in the AFC.

Recent articles and podcasts have reported that Grier adjusted certain aspects of quarterback Zach Wilson’s contract, freeing up additional salary cap dollars.

According to these writers, this move suggests that Grier may be working on a trade to acquire a veteran starter to improve one of the positions.

If this were to occur, it would be a welcome change to the trajectory of the off-season moves thus far, albeit speculative.

And it would show that the Miami Dolphins are serious about competing in 2025.
