Jared Verse has established himself as a huge part of the Los Angeles Rams’ future after back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons to begin his NFL career.

Verse has brought an edge to the Rams defense with his stellar play and ability to get under opposing players’ skin. The 25-year-old is one of the best trash-talkers in the league and uses that to his advantage during games.

Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula compared Verse to Draymond Green, who has played the agitator role for over a decade in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors, via NFL on ESPN:

“He’s our Draymond Green,” Shula said of Verse. “We needed that attitude, we needed that guy on the field to kind of get the guys together, get them to play hard.”

Green has embraced being one of the NBA’s biggest villains over the last decade, and Verse doesn’t seem to mind having that label in the NFL.

Green’s trash-talking has been effective for the most part as he’s won four NBA championships in 14 seasons with the Warriors. Verse would like nothing more than to have that kind of success with the Rams, who are the early favorites to win Super Bowl LXI.

Jared Verse believes Ty Simpson will thrive with Rams

Verse recently discussed the Rams’ decision to draft Simpson and believes he will thrive under head coach Sean McVay, who is good at getting the most out of quarterbacks.

“He’s got Sean (McVay) and he’s in the perfect situation. He gets to come in and he gets to learn from Matthew, a first-ballot Hall of Famer, MVP, Super Bowl champion. You can see how he plays and how he attacks the game. I think he’s in the perfect position.”

Verse thinks Simpson can be a dual-threat quarterback due to his ability to run the ball and make pinpoint passes.

“He can run the ball, get through all that good stuff that all these quarterbacks in the league usually can do. The way he’s accurate, the way he’s able to have confidence in the throws he makes, the things that he does — he’s confident in his abilities. That’s just a credit to the hard work that he puts in.”

Verse stopped short of comparing Simpson to other quarterbacks and said he is unique in his own way.

“He’s kind of got his own style. You can always compare this guy to that guy, but I think he’s got his own little style — the way he moves, the way he does things.”
