Chris Simms: Ole Miss' Matt Corral top QB in 2022 NFL Draft

Matt Corral was once viewed by many as the best quarterback prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft, but his stock has fallen quite a bit in recent months. Chris Simms thinks that could make the former Ole Miss star a steal.

Simms, a former NFL quarterback who works for NBC Sports, still views Corral as the No. 1 quarterback in the draft. He tweeted this week that Corral is an “insane athlete” with abilities that Simms hasn’t seen in years.

Many mock drafts now have Corral falling out of the first round. The 23-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the Sugar Bowl back in January, so he hasn’t been able to show as much as his peers over the past two months or so. Though, he recently confirmed that the ankle injury was a bad sprain and there were no broken bones or torn ligaments.

Corral will likely be drafted behind Pitt’s Kenny Pickett and Liberty’s Malik Willis. Former Cincinnati star Desmond Ridder could go ahead of him as well. Quarterbacks have a tendency to rise up the board quickly on draft day, so that could certainly happen with Corral.

Corral had over 6,000 yards passing and 49 touchdown passes over his final two seasons at Ole Miss. He rushed for more than 1,100 yards and added another 15 scores on the ground during that span. He’s hoping there are NFL talent evaluators who agree with Simms, though it should be noted that Simms has delivered some questionable QB takes recently.
