Since he was sidelined for most of the 2024-2025 season due to injury, some fantasy football players are forgetting just how good Christian McCaffrey is. He’s been lighting up defenses since he came out of Stanford, but he’s also sustained a bunch of injuries throughout his eight years in the league. McCaffrey is also getting close to being 30 years old, which historically isn’t great for running backs in the NFL. All that being said, are fantasy drafters overlooking McCaffrey?

Christian McCaffrey 2024 Stats and Fantasy Production

McCaffrey’s fantasy stats from 2024 are almost negligible due to how little he played. The San Francisco running back only started four games, and he didn’t really impress in any of them. His season high was 79 yards against Seattle, and he never saw the endzone throughout the entire season. It’s a huge mistake to judge McCaffrey on last season alone, though. In 2023, he played most of the games on his schedule and averaged 24.5 fantasy points each week. If not for injury, McCaffrey’s numbers might be up there with those of Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry.

It’s tough to project McCaffrey’s stats because it’s almost impossible to predict an injury. He gets hurt so often that many drafters might pass on making him an RB1 because he might only play for a couple of games. There’s the flipside of that, though, where he plays the entire season and could hit 100+ yards and a couple of touchdowns per week.

Fantasy Pros currently has him ranked at number 5, which would mean he is likely getting picked in the late first round or early second. His ADP is number 11 overall. Honestly, any player who wants to invest in the San Francisco running game should be encouraged to do so; just pick up Isaac Guerendo later on as insurance against an injury. There are instances where players wave McCaffrey because of the injury possibility. He’s too talented to be left on the board, though. If any fantasy player sees him in the late second or early third round, they should just take him for the upside.
