Christian McCaffrey's Dad Offers Update After Injury on Sunday

The San Francisco 49ers clearly struggled to adapt to the weather in Buffalo on Sunday night, and it showed, as the Bills cruised to a 35-10 victory.

However, the most significant moment of the game came when star running back Christian McCaffrey left the field with a knee injury in the first half.

Shortly after the game, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the injury is believed to be a PCL issue, which could potentially sideline McCaffrey for the rest of the season, with only five games remaining.

On Monday, a more detailed update came from as close to the source as possible. McCaffrey’s father, Ed McCaffrey, provided the NFL world with the latest news during an appearance on the Up and Adams Show, offering insight into what to expect regarding his son's condition.

"He has a PCL strain, so he'll get an MRI today, and hopefully it's not serious and something he can bounce back from pretty quickly," McCaffrey said. "He's been through it before. First one up in the morning, last one to leave, getting treatment, and then not being able to take the field with his teammates — that's the hardest part. But he’ll do it. He'll do everything he can to get back on the field as quickly as possible, as healthy as possible. That's the life of an NFL player."

Ed McCaffrey was later asked if his son would play regardless of the 49ers playoff chances if he's healthy enough to play and his response was as expected from the former NFL standout.

"I've always thought that you're a professional football player, and you're getting paid to play. So if you're healthy enough to play, you play, whether you're going to the playoffs or not," McCaffrey said. "If he's healthy, he’ll play. So if he's ready to go, he'll go... and hopefully the team can win a few more games in his absence."

Christian McCaffrey has battled numerous injuries throughout his career, and this season has been no exception. Just a few weeks ago, he returned from an Achilles injury that had sidelined him for the first half of the season.

However, McCaffrey is coming off a historic campaign with the 49ers last year, and he certainly has the ability to reach that level again when he's back on the field with his team.

The question now, though, is up in the air. The 49ers fell to 5-7 on Sunday night, and as of now, they are a couple of games out of the playoff picture. However, with the NFC West having a down year, they are still in contention.
