Christian Watson Injury Update Following Packers Win Over Panthers

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson appeared to suffer a serious chest injury Thursday against the Carolina Panthers. However, after a trip to the hospital, he made a triumphant return to the field, battered and a bit broken, but no worse for wear.

After the Packers’ 27- 19 win over the Panthers, Watson revealed to Scott Van Pelt of ESPN that he had broken a rib and coughed up blood following a collision in the first half.

“I think I just landed on the ball; it kind of got me right in the ribs. At first, I couldn’t catch my breath,” Watson said. “I think they saw me spit blood or something, so they needed to take me to the hospital, get a CT scan, but everything was clear there. I had something with the ribs, but that’s what it is; it’s part of football.”

No one, aside from maybe Watson, thought he’d return to the field after taking an ambulance out of Lambeau Field. When he did rush onto the field, the Packers faithful gave him arguably the largest ovation of the night, which is saying something considering the World Series Champion Milwaukee Brewers were in the house.

“I felt like I was watching WWE SmackDown vs. Raw or something seeing the cameras on me coming out the ambulance; that was a little crazy,” Watson said via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “It was a surreal experience, no doubt, and having the fans cheering for me being back out there was definitely exciting.”

Watson didn’t come out of Thursday night’s game unscathed, but it could have been a lot worse. Thankfully, he’ll have some extra time to recover, with the Packers enjoying a mini-bye ahead of their Week 9 matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday, Nov. 8.
