Cimini: Jets cut Quarterback Bailey Zappe

The New York Jets roster cut down to 53 players has begun as quarterback Bailey Zappe has been let go.  This, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.

Zappe was added as a free agent this off-season to compete for a backup job but was largely ineffective when given the opportunity to perform this preseason.

In his first appearance of the exhibition season against the Bucs a few weeks ago, Zappe threw an early pick six and never did much to help himself after that.

The Jets now have three quarterbacks on the roster in Geno Smith, Cade Klubnik and Brady Cook.  By the time rosters are trimmed down, there’s a good chance there will be a new name on the QB depth chart with Cook hoping to land on the practice squad.
