Cincinnati mayor learns his lesson in announcing Bengals, Chiefs New Year's Eve game

Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval apparently learned his lesson from January's trolling of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

As many fans remember, in the days leading up to the 2023 AFC Championship Game, Pureval declared that officials had recently asked Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to "take a paternity test to confirm whether or not he's his father" of Mahomes.

While Cincinnati was on the road for the AFC title game, many Bengals fans were feeling confident about the team's chances of making the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season due to Burrow's career 3-0 record against Mahomes.

The paternity test line wasn't the only dig Pureval took at Mahomes and the Chiefs, as he had previously announced at a city council meeting that he would be at "Burrowhead Stadium" for the playoff game and planned to talk trash to Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas.

Despite playing on a gimpy ankle, Mahomes went 29-for-43 for 326 passing yards and two touchdowns to lead the Chiefs to a 23-20 win. Kansas City defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII two weeks later.

After the Chiefs AFC Championship Game win against the Bengals, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce called out Pureval, saying in an interview "Know your role and shut your mouth, you jabroni!"

Defensive tackle Chris Jones added, "Don't you ever, ever, ever -- and I'm going to look right into the camera when I say this -- disrespect Arrowhead."

Orlando Brown Jr. -- who appeared in the newest video with the mayor -- signed with the Bengals in March after spending the last two seasons with the Chiefs and earning his third and fourth straight Pro Bowl honors.
