CJ Stroud to get Joe Mixon’s services as Texans sign the RB following Bengals exit
Sam Greene / USA TODAY NETWORK

Ahead of the 2023 NFL season, no one had expected or even thought that CJ Stroud would lead the Houston Texans to the postseason, in his rookie season. Not only he did do that, but he also scored a playoff victory in the wild-card round.

And now it was the franchise’s turn to ease some burden off the young quarterback’s shoulder as they appeared to be acquiring running back Joe Mixon. Last Monday, the Cincinnati Bengals let go of Mixon and signed Zack Moss in a two-year deal worth $8 million.

According to NFL Network, the Bengals are trading the 27-year-old to the Texans. It’s a strategic move by the Texans ahead of the 2024 NFL season, as he would be a great addition to their offensive line anchored by Stroud, who was recently honored with AP’s Offensive Rookie of the Year for his remarkable rookie season in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Mixon finished last season with 1,034 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. In his seven years in the Bengals, the running back recorded third highest rushing yards of 6,412 and second highest touchdowns of 49 in the NFL’s history.

At the Texans, Mixon is replacing Devin Singletary, who apparently signed with the New York Giants in a three-year contract worth $16.5 million on Monday.

Tee Higgins’ trade plea and Joe Mixon’s exit stir concern for the Bengals

Looking at the Bengals in the offseason, it appears the team is falling apart. Mixon isn’t the only player who parted ways with the franchise. Just recently, star wide receiver Tee Higgins requested a trade, after being franchise-tagged by the Bengals

Higgins, who is positioned behind Ja’Marr Chase has a high chance of becoming a starter or No. 1 receiver on any team, who pursues him. That is the case if he enters the free agency market and the franchise hasn’t made any official statement regarding their current scenario.

Another notable factor in the Bengals is, Joe Burrow can’t afford another major injury this upcoming season, otherwise, fans would lose all their hopes. Although there’s no denying, losing Higgins and Mixon could turn out to be a major crisis for the Bengals.
