Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud had a lot of hype heading into his second NFL season.
He was dynamite as a rookie in 2023, winning the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award and leading the Texans to an AFC South title and a playoff win before they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
Stroud finished the season with 4,108 yards through the air, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Fast forward a year later and his stats are way down. He's only completing 62.7% of his passes for 3,677 yards through the air, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He has more than doubled the amount of interceptions that he had last year.
He didn't play well on Christmas Day (Wednesday) against the Ravens, finishing with only 185 passing yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. The Texans lost that game to the Baltimore Ravens in blowout fashion, 31-2.
FS1's Danny Parkins slammed Stroud for the season that he has had thus far during Thursday's "Breakfast Ball" on the network.
"Worse completion percentage than Deshaun Watson, worse passer rating than Cooper Rush, worse touchdown percentage than Will Levis. ... He has not been good," Parkins said, via Awful Announcing.
The Texans are 9-7 and while they have already clinched the AFC South, they need their franchise quarterback to play a lot better if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs.
They'll host a playoff game in January but they could be one-and-done if they don't turn this thing around.
They're set to finish off the regular season on January 5 with a road matchup against the Tennessee Titans. They will find out who their playoff opponent will be once the other games finish on that day.
A kickoff time for Texans-Titans has yet to be determined but will be announced after Week 17 ends.
