Cleveland Browns hire former Buffalo Bills OC Ken Dorsey to same role

The Cleveland Browns have found a replacement for outgoing offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, reportedly hiring former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Dorsey was let go by the Bills mid-stream in the 2023 season.

Dorsey served for the 2022 season and made it 10 games in 2023 before being fired. The Bills began the 2023 season with a 5-5 mark, but Dorsey was liked by quarterback Josh Allen and oversaw to solid attacks. However, the Bills closed hot after his firing, winning six of the last seven to secure the division.

Dorsey, who played quarterback at Miami in college before turning pro, spent three seasons as the Cleveland quarterback from 2006-08. He’s spent his entire career coaching as an NFL offensive assistant.

The Browns and head coach Kevin Stefanski, who comes from an offensive background, will be turning to Dorsey to help shape an offense around quarterback DeShaun Watson, who has struggled to catch on in Cleveland since the Browns dealt for him years ago.

The Bills also found a new OC to replace Dorsey

The Buffalo Bills announced on Sunday that they’ve officially promoted Joe Brady to offensive coordinator under head coach Sean McDermott for the 2024 season. Brady served as the team’s interim offensive coordinator, taking over play-calling for Ken Dorsey in mid-November.

With the former Panthers and LSU coordinator operating the offense, the Bills closed the 2023 regular season with wins against the Cowboys, Chargers, Patriots and Dolphins. They got one more in the wild card round against the Steelers before falling to the Chiefs last week. The Bills went 11-6 during the regular season.

Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen advocated for Brady to keep the offensive coordinator role after their loss in the division round. Allen finished the year with 4,306 passing yards, 29 touchdown passes and 18 interceptions. He also added 524 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.

“I fully embrace it,” Allen said on Monday. “I love Joe, love what he brings to the team, the offense. The juice that he has, the passion he has for football, how much preparation he’s put into a tough situation these last seven to eight weeks, yeah. I’d fully embrace that. There’s stuff that needs to go on before that. And there’s probably an interview process and all that but he’s got my vote.”
