Cleveland Browns: Kenny Pickett Tells True Story About QB Competition
Cleveland Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett gestures to rookie Shedeur Sanders during an NFL practice at the Cleveland Browns training facility on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in Berea, Ohio.

The crowded quarterback situation over at the camp of the Cleveland Browns has become a constant source of intrigue in the NFL offseason.

It’s got a good mix of veterans and youngsters, including Kenny Pickett, who is entering his fourth season in the league but will still be just 27 years old when the 2025 campaign kicks off. Pickett is in his third stop since turning pro in 2022, when he was taken in the NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After two seasons with the Steelers, he went to the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom he won a Super Bowl. The Eagles then traded him in March to the Browns.

Kenny Pickett speaks up on  Cleveland Browns QB situation

With Deshaun Watson likely to miss the 2025 season, as he recovers from an Achilles injury, Pickett is among those competing for the top spot in the Browns’ QB depth chart.

However, the former Pittsburgh Panthers star sets the record straight that despite the eagerness to prove himself, as well as his fellow Browns QBs, the camaraderie is definitely there in the group.

“I think it’s the outside world makes it up a lot bigger than it is,” he said, per the Browns’ official transcript (h/t Kevin Patra of NFL.com). “When you’re day to day and you’re in meetings with these guys, you’re out of practice, you spend so much time together. Of course we’re all competing, but you become friends with everybody. You know, we’re helping each other. There’s open dialogue in the quarterback room to help each other grow. So I think it’s a great media headline, but when you get in the building, in a quarterback room, and at least all the ones that I’ve been in, you really become friends with these guys and we’re just pushing each other.”

So far in his NFL career, Pickett has 4,765 passing yards and 15 touchdowns against 14 interceptions in 30 games, including 25 starts.
