Even when things are supposed to be quiet around the NFL on June 30 — with players away from teams — that isn’t the case. A blockbuster trade went down Monday morning, sending cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The same deal also netted the Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith.
Where the Cleveland Browns could come into play is in Miami’s search for a new tight end after dealing Smith. While he’s a fan favorite, the Browns have a Pro Bowl tight end entering the final year of his contract.
If the Dolphins are looking to add another weapon (and they are) that fits their fast-paced offense, David Njoku could be a strong fit. At 28 years old, Njoku is in the final year of a four-year, $56.75 million contract and is set to become a free agent after the season. While it’s possible the Browns plan to re-sign their 2017 first-round pick, they did draft Harold Fannin Jr. in the third round this year.
The #Dolphins are now in conversations with multiple teams about acquiring a tight end after sending Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh, per sources.

Njoku is due $15.25 million in cash this season. Last year, he was limited to 11 games due to injury but still posted 505 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2023 after a standout season with 882 receiving yards and six touchdowns. The Browns aren’t going to contend in 2025 and may be willing to eat some of that money for a better draft pick even.
When healthy, Njoku is a matchup nightmare for defenses — a dynamic athlete who creates problems in coverage. Pairing him with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle would present serious challenges for opposing teams.
As of now, there are no reports indicating the Browns are actively shopping Njoku. However, with his contract expiring, Cleveland may be willing to listen to offers if the price is right.
