The Cleveland Browns are working their way down to 53 players ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. Cleveland has already made a number of moves, with plenty more still to come.
Along with parting ways with players, the Browns could also look to add talent from the outside. Cleveland holds the No. 2 spot on the waiver wire and has several positions where shuffling could occur.
Another route to improvement is through free agency—and one recently available veteran makes a lot of sense for the Browns.
Mike Hilton was released by the Miami Dolphins to start the week and now sits on the free agent market as a proven cornerback option. Hilton spent his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before playing the last four with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Dolphins have informed veteran cornerback Mike Hilton of his release, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

Cleveland has a clear need at slot corner following the season-ending injury to Martin Emerson Jr., which forced the Browns to move Greg Newsome II back outside. During the preseason, the Browns tested safety Nik Needham in the nickel role but ultimately released him. That leaves Myles Harden and Cameron Mitchell as the remaining options for the spot.
Hilton started 10 of 16 games for the Bengals last season, recording 73 tackles and one interception. Known for his versatility, the veteran corner has 11.5 career sacks and has long been effective as a blitzer from the slot.
Expect the Browns to add several outside names over the next few days—and Hilton feels like a logical fit who could immediately address a pressing need.
