Cleveland Browns officially have one crucial injury question that must be answered before they face the Lions
Jeff Lange-USA TODAY NETWORK

The Cleveland Browns are trying to stack wins in Week 4 when they’re on the road against the Detroit Lions. Stacking wins isn’t something that has happened for the Browns since the 2023 season and it won’t be easy against a very good Lions team. Still, anything is possible and the Browns showed that in their Week 3 win over the Green Bay Packers. Heading into the game against the Lions, the Browns will be without a key defender, and a starter on offense may not go.

Browns’ active roster is mostly healthy in Detroit this weekend

For the second day in a row on Friday, the Browns had every player on the active roster practice. Cleveland opened the practice week on Wednesday with DT Mike Hall Jr. (knee), DT Shelby Harris (hamstring), and CB Denzel Ward (shoulder) not practicing. All three players have since practiced the last two days in preparation for Detroit. Still, the Browns are not ready for Hall to get out there and he’s been ruled out against Detroit. Cleveland has listed RT Jack Conklin as questionable with an elbow injury.

Hall has been working his way back from offseason knee surgery and has missed each of the first three weeks. The former Ohio State Buckeyes’ defense could be another key piece to the Browns’ defensive front that has been very impressive this season. Maliek Collins, Mason Graham, Harris, and Adin Huntington have been very good for the Browns in the interior of the defensive line. Adding Hall into the mix would give Cleveland another player who can really get after the passer.

Conklin has missed each of the last two games with the Browns and would be big for the Browns to get back against Detroit. Cleveland is already without OT Dawand Jones for the season with a knee injury. The Browns are rolling with Cornelius Lucas as one starter and KT Leveston will man the other spot if Conklin can not go.

Cleveland’s defense is allowing just 231 yards per game, which is first in the NFL. Pair that with 57.3 yards allowed rushing per game, also first in the league, and the Browns should have the ability to compete with Detroit if they can put some points together. A struggling offense has been the Achilles heel for the Browns through the first three games with QB Joe Flacco at the helm. Cleveland’s hope is that another game with Quinshon Judkins running the ball will continue to open up things.
