Cleveland Browns Re-Sign Linebacker Elijah Lee

He wasn’t a huge part of the Browns roster last season, but still contributed.

Most of Lee’s action came with the special teams unit.

Keeping Lee

The fifth-year linebacker was claimed off waivers from the Detroit Lions.

Through 12 games, Lee recorded eight total tackles, but was mainly playing on special teams.

He was forced into action during a game where the Browns were completely banged up on defense.

However, the Kansas State product has not been a huge part of the team on the defensive side.

The 25-year-old has potential and has shown the ability to play well at the professional level.

In 2018, Lee finished with 65 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in 16 games with the San Francisco 49ers.

The young linebacker has bounced around a bit, but hasn’t been given much of a chance since that 2018 campaign.

It’s uncertain if the Browns plan on using Lee at linebacker or just keeping him with the special teams unit.

A Good Move By Cleveland?

As already mentioned, the details of the contract have not been released yet.

The being said, it’s tough to say whether or not this was a good signing by Cleveland.

Most likely it’s going to be a one-year deal for around league minimum.

The Browns lost Tae Davis, Tavierre Thomas, Terrance Mitchell and Vincent Taylor in free agency.

None of which were big-time contributors, but signing Lee does give them more depth.

Cleveland also re-signed Malcolm Smith and are reportedly looking at Anthony Walker.

This deal with Lee is not “game-changing”, but it’s nice to have depth especially with multiple players leaving in free agency.
