The training camp has yet to take place for the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL season, but they’ve already made a decision to part ways with one of the position players, with Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reporting that a rookie wide receiver Ja’Seem Reed was recently cut by the team.
Reed was signed by the Browns after he did not hear his name get called in the 2025 NFL draft, but later suffered an injury that led him to a designation on the injured reserve before his release from Cleveland.
This move isn’t a surprising one, nor should have a big impact on how the Browns’ offense will take shape in the offseason. Perhaps Reed and Cleveland will reunite at some point down the road on a possible practice player contract.
A product of the University of San Diego, he had 1,052 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 77 catches in 2024 with the Toreros.
Speaking of wide receivers, the Browns did notget one via the 2025 NFL draft. At the moment, they have Jerry Jeudy, Diontae Johnson, DeAndre Carter, Cedric Tillman, Jamari Thrash and Kaden Davis on the wide receiver depth chart. Other names in the room are Kisean Johnson, David Bell, Gage Larvadain and Luke Floriea.
Jeudy projects to be the top option downfield for the Browns in 2025 after he led the team with 1,229 receiving yards to go with 13 touchdowns in the last season.
