Well, it didn't take long for at least one member of the media to turn on Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
The Browns traded up on Day 3 of the NFL Draft to select Sanders with the 144th overall pick. Most football fans expected him to be a first-round pick, but it quickly became evident that NFL scouts didn't have him graded as high as Mel Kiper Jr. and other analysts did.
Even though Sanders was dealt an unfortunate hand at the draft, he has handled this entire situation with class. In fact, he's already making an impact on the community in Cleveland.
Earlier this week, Sanders spoke to students at John Marshall High School in Cleveland, Ohio. A photo of him giving a speech surfaced on the internet.
"Browns QB QB Shedeur Sanders vowed on draft day to get involved with youth here," Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com wrote. "He started on Wednesday already."
For some ridiculous reason, Sanders' classy gesture didn't sit well with one of the hosts for ESPN Cleveland.
On Thursday morning, ESPN Radio host Aaron Goldhammer ripped Sanders for constantly posting everything he does on social media.
"I would have preferred that if he was gonna go talk to a bunch of high school kids, he didn’t post it on social media five seconds after the thing was over," Goldhammer said. "I felt like it was him screaming, 'See, look how good a person I am. I went to a school, then I worked out. I’m doing all the right things.'"
Goldhammer's co-host, Tony Rizzo, tried to shoot down that take.
"Every charity thing they do on Tuesdays, the players' day off, they post a video of it," Rizzo said.
It's important to note that Sanders didn't post any footage of him showing up to John Marshall High School this week. It was actually shared by Hellion 'Boog' Knight.
"Shedeur did NOT post anything! I posted it," Knight said. "He didn't ask me, or anyone else to post anything. Nor did he ask for a hundred cameras to be on him upon his entrance into the school. This isn't his first school visit. He’s done MANY, in various cities & states. This is just spewed hate."
Goldhammer has not yet addressed those remarks from Knight, but maybe that'll change soon.
We'll see if ESPN Cleveland releases a statement on this messy situation.
