The Chicago Bears saw Caleb Williams suffer a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings. He exited in the fourth quarter and did not return. The star quarterback is in danger of missing Monday’s game versus the Philadelphia, along with the team’s QB2, Tyson Bagent. During an interview on Friday, Cole Kmet addressed the situation.

Chicago struggled on the offensive end and ultimately lost 9-3 to Minnesota. Williams completed 15-of-26 passes for 138 yards against one interception and took three sacks. Bagent took over under center, recording 5-of-9 receptions for 54 yards. Both quarterbacks missed Friday’s practice again, with the backup dealing with concussion symptoms.

The Bears will likely start Case Keenum, their third-stringer. He is a veteran who has 80 NFL games under his belt; however, he last started one in the 2023 season.

Cole Kmet opens up about Bears’ emergency QB situation

Kmet talked about the possibility of having a non-quarterback as the team’s emergency QB. He used to battle with David Montgomery for the role but he is not with the team anymore. The veteran tight end nominated another teammate who play behind Keenum and likely Sunday’s QB2, Miller Moss.

“Yeah, we were fighting for the spot,” Kmet said. “It was quite the QB battle. I know there’s been quite a few QB battles in my time here, but that was the one that kind of went under the radar that we really had to fight it out for. I think David kind of won out in the end if we really had to go do something, but David’s not here anymore. So it could actually come up for you guys if you go in with only two quarterbacks… Khalif Raymond would probably be my next bet, but I don’t even know if he can throw.”

Moss is an undrafted rookie out of Louisville. He saw limited action in the preseason, but the team remains hopeful that they will clear Bagent to play on Sunday. The Bears are expected to announce their starting QB decision over the weekend, which will give clarity to the situation.
