Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels had arguably one of his worst outings in the NFL against the Green Bay Packers since he was drafted in 2024.
That statement says a remarkable amount about how good the Washington Commanders star was in his rookie season in itself, but he won’t be happy about Thursday night.
Daniels said the Commanders had to ‘execute better’ after the Packers loss, which proved costly as they likely lost RB Austin Ekeler for the season due to an Achilles injury.
Rookie RB Bill McCroskey-Merritt will have to stand up in his absence, which Jayden Daniels believes he is more than capable of doing so.
NFL Analyst Colin Cowherd addressed what many were thinking about Daniels’ second season following the loss to the Green Bay Packers, in particular, the words ‘sophomore slump’.
Colin Cowherd doesn’t believe Jayden Daniels is capable of having a ‘sophomore slump,’ and instead, he just ran into the ‘buzzsaw’ that was Jeff Hafley’s Packers defense.
Speaking on The Herd Show, Cowherd said, “I’ve never bought into sophomore slumps. Mahomes didn’t have one. Peyton Manning was substantially better in year two. Joe Burrow didn’t have one.
“Lamar Jackson didn’t have one. Josh Allen got better from year one to year two. I don’t think Jaden Daniels is going to be a sophomore slump guy because I think he has elements to his personality and his makeup that transcend slumps.
“IQ, maturity, EQ, poise, those are slump-proof. So I think Washington last night ran into a green and white buzzsaw. It was a short week. They were on the road.”

He continued: “Green Bay’s the best team in the league. Green Bay’s the fastest team in the league, and Washington isn’t. They have one receiver that runs over nineteen miles an hour.
“Per Next Gen stats, Green Bay’s got four. I don’t worry about Jayden Daniels at all. I think he’s magnificent.”
Late in the Commanders’ loss to the Green Bay Packers, Jayden Daniels was seen limping after what looked to be a hip drop tackle, and it didn’t look good either.
Grant Paulsen of 1067 The Fan reportedly heard that Daniels had an MRI on his knee after the game, and that it was one to keep tabs on ‘for sure’.
Too early to know exactly what’s going on with Jayden Daniels, but I’ve heard he got an MRI on his knee today after getting banged up last night in Green Bay. Was limping pretty good at the end of the game.

It has been an interesting opening to the season for Daniels. He was let down by his Commanders’ receivers in Week 1 before having a rough outing himself against the Packers.
Head coach Dan Quinn and co. absolutely cannot afford for Daniels to spend a significant spell on the sidelines, and arguably should have taken him out of the game late on.
As Cowherd said, the Packers’ defense was effectively putting him in a blender, and he was out there continually throwing with pressure in his face. Fans will hope that it was either not accurate or just erring on the side of caution.
