For years, Colin Cowherd has recorded his daily show "The Herd" in California. Most of FS1's studio shows are shot there, including "Speak" and "The Facility." The same building in Los Angeles is also used for FOX's NFL pregame coverage and has been for the last few decades.

It was recently announced that Cowherd would be staying with Fox on a new contract, and the longtime host revealed that the show would be moving from its usual residence.

During Wednesday's episode of his podcast, Cowherd broke the news that the show would be moving to Chicago. Cowherd explained that he and his wife own an apartment in the city as it puts them closer to his wife's family.

Moving to Chicago also allows Cowherd to work there out of the Big Ten Network's studios, and a set is being built for him in that studio.

“My wife has given a lot to my career and sacrifice,” Cowherd said on Wednesday.

“I love the city, she’s got her sister there, I’ve got a lot of friends there. And I think it’s just time to be a better guy, be a better husband.”

Cowherd said that he would likely be back in California for a few weeks out of the year to cover the NFL season, and that his move would formally take place in the spring.

After working on both coasts, the south and now the midwest, Cowherd says he has a deeper understanding of how to do his job for each particular market.

“I always said I think it’s an advantage as a broadcaster,” he said on Wednesday's podcast. “I think it gives me a sense of every region.”

Cowherd is a veteran of sports television and radio, and that experience has served him well over the years. As he continues his journey on Fox Sports, the network is working to position him as their alternative to ESPN's Pat McAfee.

"The Herd" has been able to remain competitive with McAfee's daily show from a ratings standpoint - likely why the network was eager to give Cowherd a new contract.

We'll see what the future holds for one of the top names in sports media as he moves on to a new city.
