Colin Cowherd Is Getting Crushed For False Statement About NFL Coach
Jerry Lai-Imagn Images

Whether he sincerely believed it or just mistake, FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd said something pretty blatantly false about an NFL head coach while trying to prove a point.

On Monday's edition of The Herd, the sports commentator starting speaking at length about the Miami Dolphins and why they seem to be in such poor straits with head coach Mike McDaniel and star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. But while expressing his distaste for McDaniel, he declared that since McDaniel arrived in Miami (back in 2022), he's not one of the 14 different head coaches who have been to the playoffs.

"There have been 14 different head coaches that have made the playoffs since he arrived in Miami. He's not one of them," Cowherd declared.

If you've been following football for a mere two years, you'd know that this is completely untrue. McDaniel led the Dolphins to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons in his first two years at the helm.

It was so blatantly false that the post on X - which is still up as of writing - has been community noted.

"The Miami Dolphins have made the playoffs twice under Head Coach Mike McDaniel," the X Community Notes state.

Some have suggested that Cowherd might be referring to playoff wins rather than playoff appearances in this rant here. But for the most part, everyone has been clowning him for getting his facts wrong:

"The fact quoted here is, in fact, not a fact. Mike McDaniel has made two playoff appearances. But I think Colin meant that many coaches have won a playoff game," one user remarked.

"Yeah... guess Miami didn't make the playoffs both of McDaniel's first two seasons. We just imagined it. Also... In year two... not 8 games into his tenure here, the Dolphins were not an elite defense or special teams. The special teams had 36 fgs because they couldn't score touchdowns(tied for 18th with 16 made extra points). They were 27th in punting. On defense: They were 20th in Total yards allowed Yes, they were 6th in points allowed... Because they blitzed at a 40.8% clip(2nd most to the Ravens and something Flores has upped to over 50% in Minnesota). They led the league in TOs with 29... the lowest since the strike shortened, nine game 1982 season when the Raiders also had 29. That's the NFL record for lowest league leading total in the Super Bowl era. That same defense, after week 8, gave up 33 at home to KC and 56 to Buffalo," a Dolphins fan ranted.

"Colin, the Dolphins have made the playoffs 2/3 of McDaniel's seasons as HC. They were probably the most injured team both times by the end of those seasons, so they limped in and couldn't win. But they were one of the best teams for most of 2023, until they started losing 1-2 starters every week late in the year," a third said.

Maybe Colin Cowherd will apologize for misspeaking or even outright speaking falsely about McDaniel. Though even if he did, he would probably still assert that McDaniel isn't the right fit for the Dolphins.
