The debate between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes was growing louder heading into Super Bowl LIX.
Mahomes has three Super Bowls to Brady's seven and was looking to win his fourth on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was also looking to accomplish something that Brady had never done, winning three Super Bowls in a row.
He wasn't able to accomplish that feat, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles by 18, 40-22.
Colin Cowherd commented on the GOAT debate between Brady and Mahomes before Super Bowl LIX, saying that it is "stupid."
"I gotta be honest, there is a lot of talking about Brady and Mahomes, GOAT talk, I think it's stupid," Cowherd said. "I think football in my life has always been the one sport that is constantly changing. There's an old saying in sports: The NBA thinks of it, baseball makes the most money off it, and football gets it right. They tweak, they change, they alter, even during games, during the playoffs they'll change a rule to make it better for fans. You cannot compare Brady and Patrick Mahomes."
Cowherd discussed the topic again during his show this week, saying that Brady is "several hundred yards from number two."
"In a game of inches, Brady is several hundred yards from number two," Cowherd said. "From Joe Montana, from Elway, Peyton Manning, and Patrick Mahomes."
Mahomes had a putrid performance against the Eagles on Sunday, finishing with 257 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Yes, he had a positive TD/INT ratio but that's only because two of the touchdowns came during garbage time in the fourth quarter.
He was brutal before throwing those touchdown passes and looked erratic in the pocket. He was uncomfortable going up against the Eagles' pass rush.
Mahomes will have to put that performance behind him heading into the offseason. The chase for his fourth Super Bowl ring will begin in September.
