Colin Cowherd Slanders 'Overrated' Green Bay Packers, Says They Do Not Have Enough 'Elite Players' To Contend

Cowherd began his stance by saying that, while the top four teams in The Athletic’s rankings all have 7 or 8 “elite” players on the roster, Green Bay stands out to him as a team without the same top-level talent.

Cowherd chose to compare Green Bay to the Denver Broncos, a “middle of the pack” team that Cowherd believes is underrated. Compared to the overrated Packers, Cowherd named several Broncos players that he views as “elite” while saying that he only felt Green Bay had a handful of these players.

The analyst cited running back Josh Jacobs, offensive linemen Zach Tom, and safety Xavier McKinney as Green Bay’s “elite” talent, while also mentioning quarterback Jordan Love as well. Meanwhile, he named eight Broncos players when listing their high-end talent on the roster. Cowherd essentially claimed that Denver had a better chance of being a dark horse contender than Green Bay due to their larger amount of elite talent.

Colin Cowherd Thinks Jordan Love and Bo Nix Are Equivalent Players

When listing the best players on each team, Cowherd felt Love and Broncos quarterback Bo Nix were very close together in terms of which is the better player. Although Nix has played just one season of NFL football, in which he showed some mechanical inconsistencies, turnover issues, but nonetheless helped his team win 10 games in 2024-25, Cowherd was ready to say that he is already close to Love in terms of ability.

“Jordan Love is good, but is he great? We don’t know. I felt like he regressed last year.”

While Love did take a statistical step back last season, it was partly due to injuries at the beginning of the season. Furthermore, Cowherd raved about Nix’s exciting potential, citing his athleticism as one of the big reasons for optimism around his future.

Colin Cowherd Feels the Green Bay Packers are Overrated

Feeling his point had been made, Cowherd said that if the two teams combined rosters, 8 of the 12 best players would be from Denver’s side. He continued by saying that Green Bay does not have a standout position group of elite talent. While acknowledging the depth at wide receiver, he also brought up their health issues and the fact that they needed to invest their first round pick in Matthew Golden. He mentioned the offensive line, but countered the point by saying that PFF ranked the unit as 14th best in the league – not quite “elite.”

Of course, Green Bay has a much better track record and history of winning than Denver, particularly in the past ten seasons. But Cowherd was ready to dismiss that as well.

“Organizational stability has always been outstanding in Green Bay. But you got to have players.”

Time will tell if Cowherd is right, but it’s safe to say not every analyst out there is bullish on the Green Bay Packers making any noise this upcoming season.
