Colin Cowherd thinks Sean McVay could ditch Rams for Amazon

Football fans didn't even have to wait until the offseason for Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay to again be linked with Amazon.

As Sean Keeley noted for The Comeback, radio host and Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd theorized on Thursday's edition of his show that McVay could consider a career change for multiple reasons as soon as this winter.

The Rams are 3-9 heading into Thursday's prime-time contest against the 5-7 Las Vegas Raiders. Future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald seemingly could retire a happy man with a Super Bowl title on his résumé at any time even though he and the Rams agreed to a reworked contract this past spring. There have also been whispers that quarterback Matthew Stafford could ride off into the sunset over health concerns after Los Angeles shut him down likely through the rest of the season due to a spinal cord contusion and after Stafford endured multiple concussion scares last month.

"If Amazon came up…if Sean McVay was offered a three-to-four-year deal by Amazon to do 'Thursday Night Football,' I think he would take it. I do not think he wants to be part of the rebuild," Cowherd explained.

Amazon reportedly was willing to offer McVay a five-year contract worth up to $100 million last winter to convince him to leave the sidelines for the broadcast booth. It was then said in August that the 36-year-old "wasn't ready to leave his job" and had "received a raise" from the Rams following their Super Bowl LVI win over the Cincinnati Bengals in February. McVay later confirmed he signed an extension with the club.

It's unclear how much if at all, McVay wishes to be part of a rebuild. He told reporters Wednesday he was "excited" about working with quarterback Baker Mayfield over the next month or so after the Rams claimed Mayfield off waivers from the Carolina Panthers.
