Former NFL star quarterback Colin Kaepernick announced another exciting personal life development on Tuesday.
It’s been nearly a full decade since Colin Kaepernick played his final snap in the NFL. His feud with the league and team owners has been well-documented. After filing a lawsuit alleging collusion by NFL owners to keep him out of the league, Kaepernick and the league reached a settlement in March 2019.
Through his Know Your Rights Camp campaign, Kaepernick announced another significant development in his post-football life. His memoir, “THE PERILOUS FIGHT”, will be released on Sept. 15:
“Renowned Civil Rights Activist and Super Bowl quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, announced plans today to publish THE PERILOUS FIGHT, a new memoir acquired by Legacy Lit Editor, Amina Iro. Iro acquired World Rights from Creative Artists Agency, LLC. Legacy Lit will publish in hardcover and eBook editions on September 15, 2026. The audiobook, narrated by Kaepernick, is produced by and will be available exclusively from Audible to coincide with the hardcover and eBook release…
In THE PERILOUS FIGHT, Kaepernick delivers his story with the same unflinching conviction that defined the moment the world watched. Equal parts memoir and manifesto, it traces the off-the-field battles that turned a single act of protest into a movement that changed American sports and culture forever.
This is the story of a man who became someone the moment demanded. It is a story about identity, sacrifice, and the cost of courage. And it is, ultimately, a story about all of us and the future we are still fighting to build.”
In a 2016 preseason game, Kaepernick memorably took a knee during the performance of the U.S. national anthem. Kaepernick said he did it to protest against police brutality and racial injustices in the country.
Kaepernick continued to kneel during the national anthem performances through the 2016 season. In 2017, President Donald Trump called for the NFL to “fire” players who refused to stand during the anthem.
Ahead of the 2018 season, the NFL adopted a new policy that allows players, coaches and staffers to stay in the locker room during the national anthem. If they come out on the field, however, they’re obligated to stand for the performance.
Kaepernick took over as the San Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback midway through the 2012 season after an injury to Alex Smith. The dual-threat QB played well and took over as the starter from there, abruptly ending the Smith era in San Fran.
Colin Kaepernick went on a scorching run and led the 49ers to a Super Bowl 47 appearance, where they narrowly fell to the Baltimore Ravens. Proving 2012 was no fluke, Kaepernick took the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game again in the 2013 season.
The 49ers lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion, the Seattle Seahawks, in a heartbreaker. Injuries derailed their 2014 season, and the 49ers unraveled after then-GM Trent Baalke forced Jim Harbaugh out in 2015.
