Colin Kaepernick to receive workout with Chargers?

Colin Kaepernick hasn't played an NFL game since 2016, but he's trying to change that amidst the league's condemning of racial injustice and police brutality.

The 32-year-old is in great shape for an NFL return, and is said to be "more motivated to play than ever" in the league. There's a possibility that some teams will now give Kaepernick a chance to shine in workouts, and one team has already made their interest in him known.

While the Los Angeles Chargers are happy with their current quarterback situation — Tyrod Taylor, Easton Stick and 2020 sixth overall pick Justin Herbert — head coach Anthony Lynn couldn't help but discuss the possibility of adding Kaepernick to his already large QB room.

"It would be crazy to not have him on your workout list." Lynn said, according to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry. "I haven’t spoken with Colin, not sure where he’s at as far in his career, what he wants to do, but Colin definitely fits the style of quarterback for the system that we’re going to be running. I’m very confident and happy with the three quarterbacks that I have but you can never have too many people waiting on the runway."

It doesn't necessarily sound promising for Kaepernick, but Lynn, at the very least, has him on his radar for the 2020 campaign. 

Other teams could potentially give Kaepernick a look, and Massachusetts congressman Joe Kennedy III even called for the New England Patriots to give him a chance following the departure of six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. 

Kaepernick hasn't been on an NFL roster since the conclusion of the 2016 campaign, which was the same year he became a target of criticism for kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice.

After his stint with the 49ers came to a close, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL, stating he was ousted from the league for his views on the sensitive situation, and it was eventually settled.

Kaepernick did attempt a comeback earlier this year with a workout in Atlanta, but it resulted in no offers being sent to the quarterback. His desire to return to the NFL spurs from the racial injustice protests following the death of George Floyd, and Kaepernick likely wants to be a leader in change around the league.
