There was a time not too long ago that many believed Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders would be one of the first players picked in the 2025 NFL Draft. Indeed, the young quarterback himself, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, seemed to indicate last year that he believed he was going to be picked by the New York Giants, who have the third overall pick in the draft.

“I’ve heard [the Giants] had ups and downs with Sanders through a process that encompassed the Giants assessing all the top 2025 quarterbacks, and even getting an early look at some of the guys who figure to go early in ’26,” Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated noted.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who were thought not to have a chance of drafting Sanders, had him in for a top-30 visit recently as his stock began to fall. They have the 21st overall pick in the draft.

Why is Sanders seeing his NFL Draft stock fall?

The question is why Sanders, once considered one of the three best players in the NFL Draft, suddenly plummeting down draft boards. The answer likely lies in the comments made by a current NFL assistant coach to insider Tom Pelissero.

“The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life," the coach told Pelissero. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.”

This past season, Sanders led the Big-12 in passing attempts (477), completions (353), completion percentage (74.0 percent- also led all of FBS), passing yards (4,134), touchdowns (37) and passer rating (168.2).

There are concerns, though, that his game and attitude will not translate to the NFL, as is evident from the coach’s comments to Pelissero.
