Going into year two of CU’s Coach Prime era, the expectations are sky high. Despite replacing both coordinators, the overall talent level looks to be drastically improved. Robert Livingston inherits a Charles Kelly defense that made big plays but often struggled to get to the quarterback. This is a priority for the newest Colorado defensive coach.
Livingston was a successful assistant for the Cincinnati Bengals for 12 seasons. He can’t wait to provide an infectious energy to his work in Boulder. From the Colorado football Facebook page, Livingston spoke directly to the fans. “I can promise you we’ll put a product on the field that will make you proud to be there. I can promise you we’re going to do great things…you don't want to miss out. So if you’re not on the train at the beginning, there ain’t gonna be no room at the end. It’s a day by day process. We’re phenomenally blessed. From the moment I’ve been here, this community has been as supportive as anything I’ve ever seen. And I just can’t wait to put a product out there and be a part of something bigger than myself that all of Buff Nation can be proud of.”
Livingston also made an appearance on The Buffalo Stampede with Colorado play by play announcer Mark Johnson. There he expressed enthusiasm about working with Buffs offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. “For me to be a small part of it and play great defense and play complimentary football with Coach Shurmur, man, I’ve known Pat forever. Pat’s son was on our practice squad for a couple of years in Cincinnati. So I’m just excited, it’s that time of year…this is where it starts. This is where we have to get to work. I’ve got to get to know the players, the staff and we have to come together…there’s gonna be peaks, there’s gonna be valleys like anything in life. So let’s just get ready to work.”
Colorado will debut their new look defense at the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 27th.
