The Chicago Bears’ success last season is directly tied to Caleb Williams’ rise as a premier NFL quarterback in his second year.
The No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft led Chicago to an 11-6 record, en route to winning the NFC North title for the first time since 2018. This came behind Williams’ 330 completions for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Williams and Co. defeated their bitter rivals, the Green Bay Packers, in the Wild Card Round. Unfortunately, their season ended in the Divisional Round against the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite falling short of their ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl, there’s no denying that Williams had a breakout year. It is also true that he would not have had his big year had it not been for the weapons he had at his disposal. One of them was rookie tight end Colston Loveland.
Selected as the Bears’ 10th overall pick in the draft, Loveland eventually emerged as Williams’ favorite target. The former Michigan Wolverines tight end registered 58 catches for six touchdowns.
Now that they’re in the midst of their second offseason as teammates, Loveland has strengthened his off-field bond with his quarterback.
“Yeah, even more so, man,” Loveland told Lindsey Tiry of ESPN. “Whether that’s hanging out off the field, golfing, doing whatever. He’s the man. Love that guy.
“And you can feel the confidence he has coming into the year. … Really looking forward to it. That’s my guy.”

The 22-year-old TE also sounded off on what he’s seen from the Bears as a unit heading into the new NFL season.
“A lot, man. Being in the second year of the offense, everyone’s a little more comfortable,” said Loveland. “Moving a little bit faster, which is nice.
“Still got a long ways to go. Just trying to get the completion percentage up, be a little tighter, and then obviously win, win, win every game.”
Williams and Loveland are the centerpiece of Chicago’s young core. In 2026, they have an opportunity to prove they have an elite partnership on the field — one built on a strong friendship off it.
