Tennessee's Colton Hood is one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft class, with an impressive combination of physical and mental traits that jump off the tape. After a stellar 2025 campaign in which he rose to the occasion with a key teammate missing the entire season due to injury, Hood proved he can be a shutdown corner, and a potential first-round talent.
Here's everything NFL fans need to know about Hood heading into this year's draft:
Height: 6-0
Weight: 195
Age: 20
A well-rounded cover man who excels in both man and zone, Hood is a smooth athlete with high-level technique who doesn’t panic in any situation. He’s competitive in press coverage, but has the agility to move effortlessly in any direction to stick with his receiver. He plays with the comfort and confidence that reflects a high level of preparation, and his fundamentals are always sound on every rep. He’s rarely fooled by a route concept or combination, and shows the athleticism to match receivers of every size, shape and skill set at every level of the field. Hood’s upper body and lower body are always in unison, allowing him to play balanced throughout every rep instead of making false steps and stumbling to catch up.
Hood can get too grabby if he gets beaten early in the play, and NFL officials won’t let him get away with the level of contact the college ranks allow. He’s a willing tackler, but needs to improve his ability to break down and wrap up consistently instead of just reaching for arm tackles. Playing with consistent effort in run support should be a point of emphasis in his development, as well as getting stronger to improve his ability to be physical with the bigger receivers the league will line up across from him.
With Jermod McCoy out for the entire 2025 season, Hood made the most of his opportunity to prove he could be a No. 1 corner against top competition. There’s still room for growth in multiple areas of his game, but his tape from last season shows a pro-ready cover man with sound fundamentals and scheme versatility who can make an immediate impact in any NFL defense.
