Colts coach makes bold statement on Jonathan Taylor's future
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

It’s no secret that Jonathan Taylor’s future with the Indianapolis Colts is in question.

The star running back is currently on the PUP list due to an ankle injury he suffered late last season. While he is eligible to return in Week 5, many have been wondering whether or not he will suit up for the Colts ever again.

Taylor is entangled in a contract dispute with the organization, as Indianapolis declined to give him a contract extension with one year remaining on his rookie deal. He then asked for a trade, and the Colts gave him permission to seek one.

Still, Colts head coach Shane Steichen does not appear to be entertaining the thought of a future without Taylor, at least not publicly.

When asked about Taylor, Steichen said the team was “looking forward to get him back,” according to Mike Chappell of FOX59.

Of course, Steichen is not going to outright tell reporters that he's unsure if Taylor will play for Indianapolis again, so we can probably take his comments with a grain of salt for now.

Taylor was selected by the Colts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. It didn’t take him long to vault himself into the league’s elite, as he posted 1,169 yards and 11 touchdowns during his rookie campaign. He followed that up by racking up an NFL-best 1,811 yards and 18 scores in 2021, earning himself a trip to the Pro Bowl and a First-Team All-Pro selection in the process.

The 24-year-old’s 2022 campaign was cut short, but in 11 contests, he still managed to put forth 861 yards while reaching the end zone four times.

The Colts are 1-1 and are coming off of a 31-20 win over the Houston Texans this past weekend. They will take on the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday.
