Colts have an obvious decision to make in the first round of the draft after blockbuster NFL news
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts have a few holes to fill and of the more obvious needs is cornerback.

Well, that became an even bigger need after the Houston Texans traded for Pro Bowl receiver, Stefon Diggs, on Wendesday. The Texans sent a 2025 second-rounder to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for Diggs, a 2024 sixth-rounder, and a 2025 fifth-rounder.

Now, the Colts are in a division that features the following receiver combos, or in the case of the Texans, trio:

  • Titans: DeAndre Hopkins and Calvin Ridley
  • Texans: Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell
  • Jags: Gabe Davis and Christian Kirk

Obviously, Davis and Kirk aren't as near as scary as the first two tandems, but they can still play and there's nothing stopping the Jags from taking a wideout in the first round.

Either way, the Colts have to beef up their secondary, especially cornerback group, that features the likes of JuJu Brents and Dallas Flowers. Kenny Moore is the only proven guy and he plays on the inside.

A to Z Sports' own Destin Adams has the Colts taking Alabama cornerback, Terrion Arnold, with the 15th overall pick in our first-round mock draft and that seems all the more imperative, now. Arnold certainly has the traits to become a No. 1 corner in the NFL and he can get to a solid level of play, quickly.

The biggest need on the Colts roster is the same today as it was when the season ended and that's their shaky secondary. For most of the season last year, they started two rookie CBs, and just might have two different starting safeties than last season.I think the top CB in this years class is Alabama's Terrion Arnold. He has the skill, poise, and confidence you want in a top-level corner. He is talented enough to start day one and has true lockdown CB potential that the Colts desperately need. - Destin Adams

Either way, the Colts are going to have to find a way to catch up. Fortunately, there are plenty of options in doing so.
