Colts HC and former Eagles OC Shane Steichen gives his honest opinion on the Tush Push

Similar to last off-season, the Philadelphia Eagles' Tush Push play has been a major topic of discussion at the NFL league meetings.

There is more talk about it this year because all 32 NFL teams will vote on whether or not it should be prohibited this week.

Former Eagles offensive coordinator and current Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen was in Philly at the start of the Tush Push success and briefly spoke on how it was implemented in 2021.

"Well, I think they got the offensive line to do it, and I think they got the quarterback to do it," Steichen said. "And I remember when we were there my first year, we put it in, and then obviously we started going, 'Hey, let's do this, and let's do that.' Next thing you know we're like, 'Hey, let's put two pushers back there.' And that just became the play. And it was like, well, 'Let's do stuff off it,' but it was like, 'Well, we don't need to get too creative with it,' like 'We need one yard, and we're really good at this, and let's just keep doing it until they stop it.'

"So I know should we get down inside the two and Nick [Sirianni] would be like, 'Four quarterback sneaks in a row! Just call it. Four.'"

Now, does Steichen believe the league should do away with it? Absolutely not.

“Yeah, I think it should stay in football," he said. "That's just my opinion."

The thing is that any team can copycat the Eagles' version of the quarterback sneak.

However, some teams seem to be upset that their success rate at the almost automatic first-down technique doesn't come close to the Eagles'.

The NFL needs at least 24 votes against the Tush Push to completely do away with it. For now, it appears the Eagles will have their way and get to continue to use it the play their advantage.
