The Indianapolis Colts have been more of a surprise than any other team in the NFL this season, and Jonathan Taylor’s performance at running back has a lot to do with it.
Daniel Jones’ incredible performances through the first two weeks of the season have stolen the headlines, but the Colts look like one of the better teams in football across the board.
Running back Jonathan Taylor is a large reason for that, finding lanes behind a reconstructed offensive line and dominating the opening two games in 2025.
Jonathan Taylor is leading the NFL in several categories, as well as recording the fastest ball-carrier speed since the 2020 season
Jonathan Taylor’s career in the NFL got off to an incredible start, with 30 rushing touchdowns in his first two years in the league.
The Colts’ star led the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns in just his second season in the league, totaling 1,811 yards and 18 TDs during that year.
He was named a first-team All-Pro as a result and lauded as one of the top running backs in the National Football League heading into the 2022 campaign.

Unfortunately, Taylor battled an ankle injury throughout the year, which eventually landed him on injured reserve. He didn’t look the same for most of the year, and it took him until the 2024 season to truly rediscover top form.
Taylor had his third 1,000-yard rushing season last year and was named a Pro Bowler for the second time in his career. Despite another elite showing on the field, many still doubted his potential in 2025. He wasn’t considered a top ten running back by many, but has quickly proven those analysts wrong.
Through the first two weeks of the 2025 season, Jonathan Taylor leads the NFL in yards after contact (202), missed tackles forced (14), and missed tackles forced yards (112).

He destroyed the Denver Broncos‘ defense in Week 2, carrying the football 25 times and recording 165 rushing yards, while averaging 6.6 yards per carry. He added another 50 yards and a touchdown in the receiving game, as the Colts upset the Broncos for their second win of the season.
Taylor is the league’s leader in rushing yards through two games, totaling 236 on the season so far. He and Travis Etienne Jr. are the only running backs who currently have more than 200 rushing yards this year.
Not only is Taylor leading almost every category, he’s also the fastest.
According to Next Gen Stats, Taylor reached a top speed of 22.38mph after catching a pass on Sunday, which marks the fastest speed of any ball carrier in the NFL since Raheem Mostert’s run for the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 of the 2020 season.

The Indianapolis Colts offense looks completely reformed with Daniel Jones at quarterback, so much so that Rich Eisen believes Anthony Richardson’s time with the franchise might be over.
When the Colts beat a poor Miami Dolphins team in Week 1, many were hesitant to crown them as one of the budding teams in the league. However, they then went and put up 473 total yards of offense against Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos, and were able to match the physicality of that defense on the field.
Daniel Jones threw for 316 yards and a touchdown in the game, and the Colts were able to grind out the win to start the season 2-0.
Despite their current performances and winning record, this Colts team can still improve. That includes tight end Tyler Warren, who is already showing flashes of his exceptional talent as a pass-catching tight end.
The first-round rookie tight end leads the NFL in receiving yards, having caught 11 passes for 155 yards through the first two games.
