Including Jelani Woods, who is eligible to return to the active roster after Week 4, the Indianapolis Colts have four capable tight ends. But AtoZ Sports' Destin Adams still connected the Colts on the trade market to one of the most skilled tight ends in the NFL.

Adams argued that Indianapolis could pursue Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.

"Pitts was considered a 'Can't Miss Prospect' in the 2021 NFL Draft. And it led to him being drafted 4th overall by the Atlanta Falcons," Adams wrote. "He recorded the 2nd most receiving yards for a rookie tight end in NFL History with 1,026 yards in 2021.

"Last season, he couldn't match that success, as he only totaled 356 yards in the ten games he played. And this year, again, he is looking at a lower usage season as he's totaled 100 yards on nine receptions through the first three games of the 2023 season.

"Adding a tight end with Pitts' skill to this offense could take them to another level. It would allow Pitts to grow with fellow Flordia Gator Anthony Richardson at QB for the foreseeable future and possibly reach the high ceiling he was projected during the 2021 NFL Draft."

Adams admitted that there's an obvious hole in his proposal that the Colts should pursue Pitts. The Falcons hold a 2-1 record and are tied for first place in the NFC South. It's quite possible that, unlike recent years, the Falcons will still be in contention for the division title by the NFL trade deadline on October 31.

So, if the Falcons depart with Pitts, it will likely be because they've lost faith in the tight end being part of their future.

There's another hole. ESPN's Robert Griffin III named the Dallas Cowboys a trade candidate for Pitts on Monday. NFL Network's Jane Slater reported that the Falcons essentially responded to that speculation with a strong "not interested."

The Falcons selected Pitts at No. 4 overall in the 2021 NFL draft. With that pick, Pitts set a new record for the earliest any tight end was selected in the NFL draft.

As a rookie with quarterback Matt Ryan, Pitts approach other tight end records with 68 receptions and 1,026 receiving yards. But as Adams detailed, Pitts has struggled since then.

This year, he has just 9 receptions for 100 yards in three games.

Still, Pitts only turns 23 in October. It seems premature to give up on him because he's failed to produce with Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder behind center.

But if, for some reason, the Falcons change their minds and make Pitts available, the Colts should be very interested.

Giving quarterback Anthony Richardson another pass catcher could make the Indianapolis offense significantly more dangerous.
