The Indianapolis Colts have had injuries piling up in their CB room during the early stages of training camp. This has led them to make multiple moves to improve their depth going forward.
The team announced the signing of two veteran CBs and placed one of their depth pieces on the IR.
We have signed CB Tre Herndon and CB Duke Shelley and placed CB David Long Jr. on IR.

We have also released TE Albert Okwuegbunam Jr.
The Colts have signed Tre Herndon and Duke Shelley to add needed depth at CB, with Jaylon Jones and Juju Brents dealing with hamstring injuries. Hamstring injuries tend to linger, and as a result, it could lead Jones and Brents to be sidelined on and off the field over the next few weeks.
Herndon has spent the majority of his career in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars from his rookie year in 2018 to 2023. Last season was his first time playing elsewhere. He joined the New York Giants for training camp, but he wasn't able to make their roster. He joined the New Orleans Saints during the season and appeared in just one regular-season game. He has experience playing in the slot and on the outside at CB and will now compete to make the Colts roster.
Shelley is entering his seventh season in the NFL and has bounced around the league over the last few years. After spending the first three years with the Chicago Bears, he has spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, and, most recently, the Giants, with whom he appeared in one game this past year. At 5-9, he has played mainly out of the slot as well as carving out a solid role on special teams over the years. He will now compete to earn a job on the Colts roster and if I had to guess special teams will be his best path forward to doing so. Shellly and Herndon spent time with Jerome Henderson with the Giants last season, who is now the Colts' defensive backs coach.
To make room for these moves, the Colts have placed David Long Jr. on the IR and have released TE Albert Okwuegbunam Jr. Long Jr. joined the Colts last season and appeared in 13 games, playing a role on defense and special teams. Okwuegbunam joined the team's practice squad in December and landed a future deal with the team after the season.
Great job by the Giants Tre Herndon in the Slot (23) vs. the Lions.

Once he sees Sprint Out, he rolls back & at a 45 towards the sideline.
Once at apex between the numbers & sideline, he looks back inside to collect trash (Drag).
