The Indianapolis Colts have opened the door to trading star running back Jonathan Taylor, with active discussions already underway involving multiple teams, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks have all expressed interest in acquiring the 27-year-old.
Colts owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon met with Taylor this week for an in-depth conversation about their respective futures. Schefter indicated Irsay-Gordon holds an affinity for the three-time Pro Bowler and would prefer he remain part of the organization’s rebuild. At the same time, the Colts recognize the draft capital Taylor could generate.
Indianapolis is seeking a compensation package similar to the one the San Francisco 49ers sent to the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey in 2022, which included second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-round picks.
Taylor’s contract enhances his appeal to acquiring teams: He is owed $15 million in 2027 and $9.46 million in 2028 after receiving a $15 million signing bonus before the season.
The Colts have already shown a willingness to move established players for future assets. They recently dealt Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson and Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner for a 2027 third-round pick, a 2027 fourth-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
The organization has also held discussions involving wide receiver Josh Downs, whom it values at a third-round selection, though both Taylor and Downs are expected to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Head coach Shane Steichen addressed the recent transactions in a team meeting, stressing the business realities of the NFL while urging professionalism. Taylor, for his part, said Thursday he has not requested a trade and remains proud to wear the horseshoe. He acknowledged the possibility of a move, noting that players understand the business side of the league.
Taylor enters the weekend as the second-leading rusher in Colts history with 8,185 yards, trailing only Edgerrin James. He also holds the franchise record with 77 rushing touchdowns.
This season, Taylor has rushed for 587 yards and is tied for the NFL lead with eight scores.
